Semi-Immersion Spanish
Program Know the Hispanic
people and their culture, here in the USA! Dates: January 2011
The semi-immersion program is designed for students who are unable to participate in a full-time immersion program abroad.
This new program offers an authentic Spanish language experience here in the United States and is offered to students who
aspire to rapidly improve their spoken Spanish. In order to take full advantage of this program, we recommend that participants
be at an intermediate to advanced level because no English will be spoken at all! This program provides opportunities to use
real and functional language. Spanish is spoken 100% of the time as the participants engage in continual interaction with
native speakers.
Description of the program: In order to guarantee satisfaction during this experience, you
will be evaluated ahead of time to determine your strengths and weaknesses. HAA may find it necessary to offer, for instance,
an extra grammar review, which we will do at no extra cost. The semi-immersion program will be developed
in three consecutive cities where we will visit markets, restaurants and private businesses. You will receive guidelines about
the daily activities which will include meeting and speaking Spanish with at least six Spanish host families/members from
different countries. These families will welcome you and interact with you while providing opportunities to learn about their
lives, hobbies and customs. We will have breakfast at the homes of some
of these host families and our other meals at ethnic restaurants where no English is spoken. If you have
any dietary restrictions, you should let us know in advance so we can make the proper arrangements. The minimum duration of the program is three eight-hour days packed
with a variety of dynamic cross-cultural activities and experiences.
Who may benefit from this program: • Business people wishing to
have a quick conversational experience. • Spanish language students, especially AP students,
university students, or foreign language students in a teaching certification program. • Anyone
interested in experiencing the multi-national Hispanic world in the United States. • Anyone
who wants to practice Spanish for personal enrichment. • Anyone who needs intensive practice
in the Spanish language.
